You all love food trends and so do we. That’s what leads off the latest installment of “This Week in Health & Fitness.” Every other week, the Under Armour Connected Fitness editorial team hand-curates the biggest stories, trends and goings-on around the world that will help you on your quest to live a healthy life. Who’s hungry?
The Mouse Loves Cauliflower, Too
We’ve closely documented the explosion in popularity of all things cauliflower. How do we know it’s officially official? When Disney jumps on board. Behold the Enchanted Cauliflower Sandwich, the latest delectable offering at Disneyland’s Beauty and the Beast-themed Red Rose Taverne. The Happiest Place on Earth describes it as “a grilled cauliflower ‘steak,’ spicy lime aioli, tempura-battered green beans, lettuce and tomato on a toasted roll.” Sounds awesome! But worth the hype? Check out this review.
Our Favorite Foods, by State
Last time around, we featured a couple visuals that illustrated food and fitness trends by social media searches and other various data. This time, it’s a Pinterest study of what people are searching for in every state. No-bake cookies in Michigan? Smoothie bowls in Virginia? Meet “The Foodnited States” project. (While you’re at it, stop by the relaunched MyFitnessPal Pinterest board.)
Spreadable Coffee? Shut Up and Take Our Money
Raise your hand if you love Nutella. Whoa, that’s a lot of you. What if we told you a Japanese company did the same thing for coffee that Nutella did for hazelnut and chocolate? We thought so. Just settle down. Here’s the scoop on spreadable coffee. We feel we should say it: in moderation, people.
Eat Like Tom Brady
At Under Armour we have been all about encouraging you to sleep like the greatest quarterback of all-time. But if you want to eat like him, too, then Purple Carrot might be for you. The vegan meal-kit delivery service has teamed up with Brady to prepare meals that focus on performance — and they’re literally what TB12 and family eat at home. (Note to fans: Falcons aren’t a vegan option.)

Lose Weight, But Enjoy a Tipple, Too
By now you’ve probably been schooled on cutting down on alcohol consumption if you want to lose weight. But can you do both? Check out this theory from The New York Times.
Bottled Water Knocks Soda Off Its Perch
America’s obesity rates have been driven over the past several decades by our rate of soda consumption. That may be shifting. A new study by an industry association shows sales of bottled water in the U.S. overtook soda sales in 2016. The Ultimate Weight Loss Success Story
A lot of us are stressing about losing just 10–20 pounds of weight (and some much more than that). But what about being 800 pounds overweight? GQ has the amazing story of an Englishman who weighed nearly half a ton and the dramatic tale of how he dropped nearly all of it.

When Nature and Your Run Collide
All runners have some story of how inclement weather made a run difficult. Then there’s this: When winter storm Zeus hit northwestern France last month, it made life rough for the participants in the Foulées de Deux Rive 14K. In this dramatic video, you can see runners combatting nasty wind to get across a half-mile bridge. There was a happy ending: Race organizers drove many of the runners across by car.
The Art of the Workout
Your exercise may not define you, but according to this item from Forbes, there are some very real connections between success and staying fit.
Remembering a Running Legend
In January, we posted an item about Ed Whitlock, a Canadian marathon runner who set a handful of records after his 70th birthday and essentially rewrote the science books on aging. This past week, the legendary runner passed away at age 86 and leaves an impressive legacy of records at multiple age categories (all past 70) and a ridiculous 2 hours, 54-minute finish at the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 2004. We’re all in awe of you, Ed. Rest in peace.
